MULTI- • Multi- to have more WORD EXAMPLES than one, or many multihyphenate multiracial multiplayer multiplex COMPOUND: The Harlem Renaissance was a time where African-Americans could get away from multiracial discrimination, and they could pursue their dreams. SIMPLE: Langston Hughes was quite the multihyphenate as an American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and columnist.

FORE- • Fore- preceding or WORD EXAMPLES going before, superior, foreman forewarn or at the front part of foregathered foresee COMPUND: No one could have foreseen the cultural explosion of the Harlem Renaissance; it was sudden and magnificent. SIMPLE: Bob smiled and said, “Now that I’m in Harlem, I’ll be able to pursue a career as a foreman.”

  4. SELF- • Self- of or by WORD EXAMPLES yourself/itself self-centered selfsame selfless selfheal COMPOUND: The Harlem Renaissance is home to the selfsame Countee Cullen; he was a famous American poet. SIMPLE: Famous people like Lena Horne are prone to be self-centered.

HYPER- • Hyper- excessive WORD EXAMPLES or exaggerated , over hyperlink hyperspace or above normal hyperactive hyperaware COMPOUND: I clicked on a hyperlink to a site about the Harlem Renaissance, and, to my surprise, I found a picture of Lois Armstrong. SIMPLE : Al was hyperaware of everything going on around him in the busy streets of Harlem, NY.
