  1. INTERNATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME FIFTH ANNIVERSARY 26-30TH MARCH 2010 CAIRO - EGYPT

  2. TOWARDS A GLOBAL NETWORK? • Good morning all of you present here today, the British Museum, the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Cairo, the colleagues of the training programme and all invited people. First of all, I want to say thank you for this invitation to be with you once again. Gilda Carla Angélica Jorge Maputo - Mozambique

  3. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ART

  4. I - WHAT IS IT? • The National Museum of Art is a non profit public institution, with a scientific and cultural character, serving the community and social development, which acquires, registers, documents, conserves, researches, exhibits and divulgates art works, with the aim of study, education and collection of art in relation to different visual art manifestations.

  5. II – MY EXPERIENCE IN ITP (2009) • The ITP was important and special training programme because of the consistency and the solid foundation of the activities offered to the participants of different countries of the world. It started in 2005, however in 2009 Mozambique participated with two people, one from the National Museum of Art, in Maputo and the other of the National Museum of Ethnology, António N´tmbanga.

  6. My specific area of work is documentation (digitalization), but I have got experience in differents areas of museums, like Archaeology, Conservation, Restoration, Storage, Research, Documentation, and more.

  7. III – IMPLEMENTATION GRADE • At the National Museum of Art, I started to have a meeting with my colleagues to explain about what the training was at the BM and the importance of interchange between the institutions. Second, this was followed by a conversation with each colleague at his/her department to show exactly how to do something perfectly, like to handle the objects, etc, at the conservation, restoration, storage, education and exhibition. Specialy in my department I use the experience from ITP to amplify my vision work in concerning the data of artwork, digitalizing (database creation) and reseaching about it.

  8. IV - DIFFICULTIES • A lot of objects in this museum are preserved in storage where the conditions of organization are not proper. Many works of art are put on the floor because of shortage of space and cupboards which makes them subject to strong degradation caused by dust and missing humidity control.

  9. V - OUTCOME • Is although early now to do any good valuation of this experience, but I can perfectily say I´m sure that something has changed and is already been done to acquire a good quality of work. It helped us to understand very well about what kind of job I will do at museum to develop it. • There are improvements of activities at some departments like education, consevation and documentation (digitalization), as well as reseach area it is growing up at museum.

  10. THANK YOU
