  2. INTRODUCTION • The Medieval punishments were much harsher than today's punishments. The Iron Maiden

  3. TRIAL BY ORDEAL • Trial by ordeal is a judicial practice by which the guilt or innocence of the accused is determined by subjecting them to an unpleasant, usually dangerous experience. In some cases, the accused was considered innocent if they survived the test, or if their injuries healed, in others ordeals, only death was considered proof of innocence.

  4. PUBLIC HANGING • The king used public hanging to scare the community into being law abiding citizens. The laws were much harsher than now because the prison system wasn’t around back then so they had no choice other than killing them or torturing them.

  5. PUBLIC HUMILIATION • Public humiliation was often used by local communities to punish minor and petty crimes like bakers selling under weight bread, or grosser selling old or rotting fruit. The main form of public humiliation was to be put in stocks and letting the towns people throw old food and other items at the so called criminal.
