Training Requirments • Typically engineers enter with a bachelor’s degree, but specific positions require a graduate degree. • Engineers that offer their expertise directly to the public must have a license. • Continuing is necessary to keep up with the rapidly changing technology. • Structural engineering students must take the civil engineering course for it is a specialty within its discipline.

  3. What do they do? A structural engineer is responsible for the design and evaluation of anything that supports or carries a load. Structural engineers who focus on buildings focus on the schematics and building codes for safety as well as the elements and occupancy. Their job consists of job site visits and design reviews. They will often create things that cities are built around.

  4. Buildings oversought by Structural engineers • The world trade center’s towers 1 and 2 are perhaps • two of the most reveered towers of our country’s • history. A structural engineer designed and oversaw the • site during construction.

Inovations to create beauty • This building called the Taipei 101 located in • Taipei, Taiwan is a staggering 1650 ft. tall yet it • is located in a part of the world where earthquakes • and 134mph gale winds are commonplace. With • 380 piles driven over 260 down into the ground • and a 700 ton pendulum sitting from floors 90 to • 100 it is one of the most stable buildings in the • world. During construction in 2002 a 6.8 mag- • nitude earthquake struck Taipei and the building • Survived with absolutely no damage. Having said • this when it was built it was not only the tallest but strongest building in the world, all thanks to structural engineering • masterminds. It truly is a wonder of the world.

  6. More crazy stats • The BurjKahlifa in Dubai, UAE is the tallest building in the world and I believe will be for at least 15 more years. It’s a mind blowing 2,723 ft. tall! It is so tall that when you are at the top you can see the curvature of the earth. It contains hotels malls as well as office space. The company responsible is Skidmore, Owings, and Merril who had to equate varrious structure shapes and thinks of ways simply just make something of this height satnd let alone be usefull.

  7. The “einstien of structural engineering” • FazlurRahman Khan, the father of tubular design, is the most influential structural engineer of the 20th century. He has been called the "Einstein of Structural Engineering" for his revolutionary work which remain fundemental to modern skyscraper construction.Hisbreakthroughs in structural engineering for tall and long-span buildings exerted an unprecedented and lasting influence on the profession, both nationally and internationally. With a career marked by a legacy of innovations that is unpeered, Khan has become an icon in both architecture and structural engineering.
