  1. “Electronic Tap” or how can we deal with large classes

  2. Basic protocol - prep One protocol (And we might count such as TAP as two TAPs for the consultant) • Ask professor for two times. 15 minutes about a week before the discussion for students to get into large groups (8 people +-) and discuss the 6 areas. One student appointed as scribe and teacher leaves the room (Maybe prepare a slide that the teacher can display?) • Alternately, have the students do an electronic TAP individually. • Set time for the debrief (typical ½ hour TAP). • Get list of student e-mails from professor for follow-up. • During the first session students discuss. (Do they have the prompt sheets?) • CFI consultant sends a note to all of the students: 4. Sample letter to students

  3. Protocol – Gather Info and Share • Survey questions mimic TAP questions. • Consultant is sent the results of the survey 2 days after the in class discussion. • Consultant looks for themes in the answers and representative comments. Puts together the “normal” report • Puts together a Powerpoint centered around themes to facilitate discussion • Conducts discussion and solicits further clarification from students. • Adjusts report based on the discussion items. • Consults with the faculty member as before.

  4. Teaching Analysis Poll – TAP • TODAY • Groups of 8-10 students each • Assign a scribe to take notes • Scribe should be available to post these to a follow-up survey • We will discuss the items in detail during a later class period • Questions – Please address them to<TAP Consultant Name> <TAP Consultant@JMU.edu>

  5. Sample letter to students
