  2. Definition: Scat-Singing ist eine im Jazz weit verbreitete Gesangsart. Es sich um improvisiertes Singen von Tonsilben ohne Wort-bedeutung und ohne zusammenhängenden Sinn, als laut-malerische Nachahmung instrumentaler Phrasen (dubi-dubi-daa).

Eine Legende erzählt, Louis Armstrong sei bei der Aufnahme von “HeebieJeebies” (1926) versehentlich das Textblatt auf den Boden gefallen, sodass er die Worte improvisieren musste. Dies sei die Erfindung des Scat-Gesanges gewesen.
