    6. The Seven Myths Myth #1 Wood Consumption in US is decreasing, thus demand for Montana wood products is destined to decline (or disappear) Fact – Record High Lumber Consumption in the U.S. in 2004, again in 2005 (63.9 billion board feet).

    7. Myth #2 - Montana Forest Products Industry is over-cutting Montana Forests Why is the Forest Products Industry in Montana? Total of 23 million acres of forest land 19 million acres of non-reserved forest land (~2/3 is public land) Annual Growth - 2.309 Billion board feet Annual Mortality - 1.213 Billion board feet Growth plus Mortality- 3.522 Billion board feet

    8. Fact: Harvesting Much less than Growth Current Annual Harvest of about 700 Million (not billion) Board Feet in 2005. Current harvest is about 1/5th (20%) of Growth & Mortality Current harvest is about 1/3rd (33%) of Growth
