  9. Calendars! • You have to sell calendars to compete in the high school rodeos. You have to sell at least 5 calendars, and if you sell more you can win coats, shirts and more! It raises money for the kids that make it to nationals to help with the expenses.

  10. Nationals • Nationals is a week long event (7 days) in Rock Springs, Wyoming. You compete in each event three times in that week counting the short go. To make it the short go you have to ride, get a time in your event twice, unless there are only 10 or less that rode one. It takes a lot of time and effort to make it to the short go. It is a very good accomplishment to make it to the short go, because that means that you are one of the top ten in the Nation. It is a very long boring ride there, but it is worth it when you get there!!! There is a bunch of fun things to do, and things to buy!!

  11. Tyus Olsen Interview By Tri-state Livestock • Rodeo Event(s): Steer wrestling, Tie-down roping and Team Roping • What is your future in the sport of rodeo? Where would you like to see it go? I plan to rodeo until I can’t do it anymore, and after that I’ll still probably rope steers. I would like to see myself be competitive at the pro-level. It would also be nice if I could use my rodeo to help pay for some of my college expenses. What is your ultimate goal as you continue competing in rodeos? My ultimate goal, which is a long-shot, would be to win the triple crown, 3 world championships in 1 year. • Favorite aspect of rodeo: Being able to compete with friends, and I also really like that it is an individual sport. You get to make yourself however good you want to be. • Best rodeo memory: Winning my first saddle • Tell us about your horse(s): Buttons is 21. He is the horse I learned to rope on. Now I use him as one of my calf horses. Mater is 6, he is my heel horse who I just got last summer from Kevin and Ashly Jaeger. Meathead (21) is really my grandpa’s horse but both me and my dad rope calves on him. Frosty (16) is my bulldogging horse. He used to be a head horse with no rate, so we sent him to Allen Good to be trained to dog on. • Have you attended any rodeo schools? If so, which ones? I have been to Allen Good’s bulldogging school, and to Brent Lewis’s calf roping school in Hermosa 3 times. • What do you like to do when you’re not competing? I like to fish, rope at home and play the guitar. • What’s playing on your iPod/radio? Barrel Racer Land by Kenny Feidler
