Year 12 Curriculum Core • PSHE, Tiffin Tuesday Programme, Physical Education • Independent study periods Options • 4 subjects studied (5 if taking Maths route 2) • 4 one hour teaching periods per week per subject • Critical Thinking (1 hour per week) – optional • EPQ (From End of Year 12 and start of Year 13) 2012 – 2013

  6. Year 13 Curriculum Core • Study periods Options • 3 A2 subjects studied (or 2 A2 and AS Further maths) • 4 one hour teaching periods per week per subject • Students may start an AS, in a Year 12 class, if they wish and it is possible on the timetable 2012 – 2013

  7. Induction Into Y12 • Induction day on Monday 1 July • French and Spanish induction days on Tuesday 2 July and Wednesday 3 July: • Compulsory for anyone wishing to take AS French or Spanish in Y12 • Focus is on grammar and structure • Essential preparation for our AS level courses • Day in early September focused on study skills, team development and meeting new people 2012 – 2013

  11. Subjects on offer • See list in the handout • Note that all are being offered at this stage but whether a subject runs or not depends on numbers opting for it, and staffing 2012 – 2013

  12. Mathematics • Route 1 – AS in Year 12, A2 in Year 13 • Route 2 – full A Level (AS and A2) in Year 12 • Route 3 – A2 in Year 12 (only students who achieve at least a grade B in AS in Year 11 can follow this option) • Further Mathematics AS and A Level in Year 13 – open to any student who followed route 2 or route 3 in Y12 2012 – 2013

  13. Music • Leads to Pre-U, not A Level, but opportunity to take AS music at end of Year 12 if student wishes to drop music at end of Year 12 • Students must have Grade 5 theory before starting, or commit to achieving that by the end of Year 12 if they do not already have it 2012 – 2013

  14. Computing • AS and A2 available in Year 12 • To take A2, a student must have taken AS Computing in Year 11 2012 – 2013

  15. Options process • 4 subjects and 1 reserve • We aim to be able to accommodate students in all their chosen subjects • May be possible to change after GCSE results but may be limited by the timetable and class sizes 2012 – 2013

  16. Entry Requirements • The requirements are exactly the same for internal and external applicants • They are fully set out in the published Determined Admission Arrangements on our website • 8 GCSE passes including Maths, English and a Science, of which 4 must be at grade A and 2 at grade B • There are then separate entry criteria for specific subjects 2012 – 2013

  17. Grade Requirements For Particular Subjects • Students must achieve an A or A* in the subjects they wish to study at A level • See handout for requirements for specific subjects e.g. Maths route 2, Economics, Psychology, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Classical Civilisation 2012 – 2013

  18. Science A Levels • Must achieve at least an A in separate Biology, Chemistry or Physics at GCSE • For the combination of maths + biology + chemistry: • 4 A* grades in total (including A* grades in 2 of Maths, Chemistry, Biology) • a student may still choose 2 out of Maths, Biology and Chemistry if they do not meet the criterion for the combination of all three 2012 – 2013

  19. Application Process - internals • Fill in the form and send it to the sixth form administrator (Mrs McCarthy) • It must be received by Friday 16th November 2012 – 2013

  20. Application Process - externals • Fill in the application form and send it to the sixth form administrator (Mrs McCarthy). It must arrive by Friday 16 December. You must attach your end of Year 10 school report to the application form • We will send you a blank copy of the reference form • Complete your section of the reference form and pass it to the head of year at your current school • Your current school then completes the reference form and returns it by 16 December • Only the end of Y10 report and the predicted grades received by 16 December will be used when deciding on an application 2012 – 2013

  21. Application Process - externals • Predicted grades are used to assess suitability for this school, and the subject combination being applied for • Future Pathways Discussions for selected candidates (February to March) • Offer letters • Each applicant will be informed of the outcome of her application • Note - the offer of a place is conditional on a student actually achieving the predicted grades sent in by their school 2012 – 2013
