  2. Genesis (Beginnings) • Introduce each other (name, where from?, field of study at the Seminary, and perceived giftedness to the Body of Christ) • Perfect Complete Gospel Devotion • Pray (the Word and in the Spirit) • Outline Course (purpose, method, & content) • Form Groups

  3. Consider This! • Israel became a nation again on 14 May 1948 (Isa 66:7-9; Ezek 37:15-28; Amos 9:14-15; Zech 8:7-8), and is bearing fruit again (Isa 27:6) • Since 1948, there have been : • Many “false messiahs” (Matt 24:5) - e.g., Sun Myung Moon (The Unification Church), L. Ron Hubbard (Scientology), David “Moses” Berg (Children of God), Maharaj Ji(Divine Light Mission), Jim Jones (The Peoples’ Temple), Lord Maitreya (New Age Movement), David Koresh (The Branch Davidians), Tony Alamo (Alamo Christian Foundation), etc. • Increased numbers of “wars, rumors of wars & nations against nations” (Matt 24:6-7; Luke 21:9-10) - China/Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, Middle-East, Falklands, Central America Drug Wars, Africa, Afghanistan, USSR break-up, Iran/Iraq, Grenada, Iraq (1/2), Philippines, PLO/Israel, Arab League/Israel, Global Radical Muslim terrorism • “Famines” (Ethiopia, many countries in Africa, India, Bangladesh, war-torn countries around world, & in USA, 57 million die annually due to starvation); & “Earthquakes” (Armenia, Alaska, California, China, India, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Haiti, Chile & related Tsunamis) – (Matt 24:7; Luke 21:11) • Approximately 99% of the nations on the earth have heard the Gospel (Joshua Project 2007) • The Bible has been translated into approx. 96% of the world’s languages, with a goal of 100% by 2025 (Wycliffe, 2006)

Foundational Devotion • Philippians 1:6 – God began the Perfect Complete Gospel work in Christians at Salvation/Justification (Jesus’ 1st Coming), is continuing the Sanctification processin their lives, & will complete the work at Glorification/Rapture (Jesus’ 2nd Coming/Parousia) • Titus 2:11-13– This is the “Blessed Hope” for the Church/Body of Christ • The Perfect Complete Gospel is primarily confirmed by: Eph 1:4-14; Rom 8:22-25; 1 Cor 15; 1 Pet 1:3-5 and 1 John 3:2, and by • The Parable of the Wheat and Tares (Weeds) in Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43

Foundational Devotion (cont.)And In light of; • Daniel 12:4 - In the End-times, knowledge will increase • Matthew 24:4; Mark 13:5; Luke 21:8 – Watch, be prepared, AND donot bedeceived • Luke 21:28-31– “When these things begin to take place . . . Your redemption is drawing near . . . the kingdom of God is near.” – Just like the Fig Tree (Fig Tree Generation v. 32) • Therefore; • 2 Tim 2:15– “Earnestly Study” to show yourself approved to God as a workman able to “rightly divide the Word of Truth” (especially in the times in which we live & in light of 1 Tim 4:1-2, 7 & 2 Tim 4:3-4, regarding “deceptive spirits, doctrines of demons, myths, & old wives’ tales;” which amounts to false doctrine/heresy) Let us pray!

The Purpose resides in the Title of the Course Biblical– From the Bible (both Old & New Testament, primarily apocalyptic genres) Eschatology – from “eschatos,” meaning “the extreme, most remote spoken of place and time, the last”—described by 1 Cor 15:24, “. . . then comes, the end, when He delivers up the kingdom to the God and Father . . .”; and from lego or “logos” in Greek, meaning, “to relate in words or something said (including the thought and idea)”; by implication, a topic, subject or discourse: Study of the End-Times/Last Days Surrounding the Parousia/Second Coming of Jesus Christ

  7. Purpose Statement A Small Group of Graduate Students, that sets out together on the journey of developing their own Credo about Christian Biblical Eschatology

From the Purpose flows the Method • The need for Small Groups of 4 preferably (Leader, Observer, Encourager, & Recorder) for this semester’s journey • Using Rom 12:3-8; 1 Cor 12:12-27; & 1 Pet 4:10-11 (Body of Christ Giftedness) as a Model, 1 Cor 13 & Rom 12:9-16 (Love) as the Motivation/Action, & 1 Cor 14:26 & Eph 4:3-16 (Unity of the Spirit, Bond of Peace of the Mature Body of Christ) as the Goal • General Format(subject to modification as necessary) for the Seminar will be: • 8:30 – 9:15 – Meet in Groups to pray/have eschatological devotion • 9:15 – 9:30 – Break • 9:30 – 10:30 – Lecture on Topic of the Day • 10:30 – 10:45 – Break • 10:45 – 11:30 – Finish Lecture

Small Group Cooperative Learning • Based on four elements: • Positive Interdependence • Face-to-face Interaction • Individual Accountability& Evaluation • Appropriate use of interpersonal, small-group skills • Contributing ideas, asking questions, expressing feelings, actively listening, expressing support/encouragement, summarizing, checking for understanding, relieving tension, and giving direction • All these skills may be broken down into four positions within the Group (which are rotated each class meeting):

  17. Course Assignments Group Participation - 20% Exegetical Paper on Dan/Rev or Eschatological Issue Paper - 40% Course Synthesis Paper - 40% Take a break & return to form Groups

  18. Eschaton (The End/Last Thing) • Read pp. 1317-1346 in Geisler • Read Sections A.4, 1.2.2 in Hebert • Read 2 Timothy 3:16 and 2 Peter 1:19-21 for Devotion tomorrow
