    2. What is Macro Express? Macro Express (ME) is a cross-software Windows based macro creation program. ME provides automation for daily or repetitive tasks. ME does not require you to know how to program in a scripting language.

    3. Macro Express: Possibilities There are three different methods for creating a macro: Scripting Editor Direct Editor Capture Macro There is also the Quick Wizard that provides step by step help.

    4. Scripting Editor The scripting editor allows you to create your macro using predefined commands which includes: logic statements, text, timing, and mouse control. You can also put documentation within the macro. Here is a sample of the code:

    5. ME: Commands Using the script editor you can select the command you want and add it to the macro. You can also specify that a macro is launched at a certain time of day, or only if other parameters are met.

    6. Direct Editor The direct editor will probably be the least used method of creating a macro. The direct editor allows you to hand code if you so choose. Here is a sample of the code:

    7. Capture Macro This function allows you to capture a macro as you do it. This method is sometimes referred to as recording. After testing this method, it is apparent that there are few parameters that must be set correctly for your macro to work properly and efficiently.

    8. ME: Best Practices Capture Mode When capturing a macro these settings are very important:

    9. Acquisitions: Monograph Order This macro assumes that certain Aleph default settings will be in place (ex. Monograph Order Unit, Batch Claiming, etc.). The macro moves through the non-default fields and through all 3 tabs of the order so the user does not have to use their mouse.

    10. Monograph Order: Breakdown

    11. Ser Cat HOL: LDR and 008 This macro moves through the LDR and 008 HOL fields and stops on the fixed fields that may need to be changed for a serial HOL record. There is also the added cataloging quick tip pop-up window.

    12. ISSN Retrieval This macro is a demonstration of the cross-software compatibility of ME. It moves in between Excel and NOTIS.

    13. ME: Best Practices With the macro capture method you can use your mouse to negotiate the Aleph windows, however it is highly recommended that the Keyboard shortcuts are used as much as possible. To stop a macro once it is running press Scroll Lock AND Pause keys.

    15. Trial Edition ME also allows a 30 day free evaluation. The trial edition is a fully functioning version of ME, and does not lack any of the capabilities of the licensed ME. To download the trial edition: http://www.macroexpress.com/download.htm
