  10. Conclusions-

  11. What’s the point of a conclusion? • To sum the entire writing piece up • To stress the importance of the thesis statement • To give the essay a sense of completeness • To leave an impression on the reader • To show why this subject is important to the writer

  12. Let’s Break it Down: • First, give a clue that you are ending the essay! • 1st Sentence: Restate your subject -fluff • 2nd Sentence: Restate your thesis statement • 3rd Sentence: Go back to how you grabbed the reader’s attention in the lead/glitz. Make reference to it. • 4th sentence- Answer the question “so what?” This stresses the importance of your thesis. In other words, why are you taking the time to write about this?

  13. Sample: Find the thesis • If this was your introduction……From the parking lot, I could see the towers of the castle of the Magic Kingdom standing stately against the blue sky. To the right, the tall peak of The Matterhorn rose even higher. From the left, I could hear the jungle sounds of Adventureland. As I entered the gate, Main Street stretched before me with its quaint shops evoking an old-fashioned small town so charming it could never have existed. I was entranced. Disneyworld is the ultimate destination for a vacation since it brings families together, is educational, and has a variety of activities to do.

  14. Tie it to your conclusion….. • Conclusion: Find the thesis and find the ‘So what?” • To wrap it up, I thought we would only spend a few hours at DisneyWorld, but here we were at 1:00 A.M., closing time, leaving the front gates with the now dark towers of the Magic Kingdom behind us. My mother and father still had a list of things to do! I could see tired children, toddling along and struggling to keep their eyes open as best they could. Others slept in their parents' arms as we waited for the parking lot tram that would take us to our cars. My feet ached as I thought about the laughs I shared with my mother. I can’t believe she screamed the entire Space Mountain ride. I also learned so much about the world around me. We spent ten hours at DisneyWorld and it was the highlight of our vacation to Florida. My family needed to spend that time together, and Disney World provided the perfect backdrop to our bonding.
