Measuring the Impact of Health Care Reform on Uninsured American Indians and Alaska Natives

This presentation analyzes American Community Survey estimates and new data from 2008-2010, focusing on health insurance rates and income distribution among American Indians and Alaska Natives in 33 states with significant Indian populations. Findings reveal that 18% are uninsured, with private insurance at 43%, IHS at 21%, Medicare at 15%, and Medicaid at 42%. The data highlights access to services and the challenges faced by uninsured individuals in obtaining adequate health care coverage. This comprehensive review aims to inform policy-making and improve access to health services.
