  2. Statements and Questions A statement is a sentence that tells something. A statement ends with a period (.) A question is a sentence that asks something. A question ends with a question mark (?) What can live in a very dry place? All statements and questions begin with a capital letters.

  3. Put a period at the end if the sentence is a statement. Put a question mark at the end if the sentence is a question. • Can an oak tree live in a very dry place__ • An oak tree needs plenty of water__ • It cannot live in a very dry place__ • Does a cactus need much water__ • A cactus does not need much water__ • Where does a cactus live__

  4. Read each sentence. Draw a line under each statement. Circle each question. • Will you come to my town • It is in the mountains • My town is quite small • We have only two stores here • Do you know all your neighbors • I know everyone in town • Would you visit me in the mountains
