The current status of the HOWFS telescope simulator project includes assembly and testing completion of the telescope and HOWFS, alongside the development of an alignment feedback GUI. The alignment plan is halfway finished, with an on-axis green and red laser fiber source operational. Key metrics such as pupil ellipticity and size have been assessed, although the CCD50 focus positions remain to be established. Outstanding tasks involve further testing and integration phases, with mechanical updates expected shortly.

HOWFS - 7/24/09 C. Baranec
Current Status Summary • Telescope simulator assembled • HOWFS assembled and tested • Alignment plan (CIN 636) is halfway finished • Alignment feedback GUI developed and tested
Telescope Simulator • On-axis green laser • Red laser fiber source • On x-y-z translation stage • F/# ~15.7 (needs to be confirmed)
HOWFS Mechanical Pieces needed for WFS fabricated and assembled. Alignment feedback GUI developed and tested.

Analysis/Discussion • Pupil ellipticity at 2.0% (1.70% desired for AOI of 10.5) • There are degrees of freedom to change the ellipticity • Pupil size at 9.645 mm (9.600 target) • We need to establish exact pupil sizes in the different modes before specifying collimator • Different focus measurement in different modes • Many possible contributors, will require investigation • CCD50 focus positions not yet established • Will require use of Pixelink camera
Flexure analysis • Flexure – ATS150 roll compliance is excellent. Still awaiting pitch compliance. Expect 0.1”/hour.Khanh’s description of flexure analysis however is confusing. What priority should we place on having him document this properly?
Outstanding tasks - summary • CCD50 readout modes – awaiting SciMeasure. • Test the camera modes – RN/DC (JR, ? days) • Finish alignment plan - (CB, 1 day) • Further alignment investigation – (CB, 1 day) • Amendments to alignment procedure – (CB, 1 day) • Internal flexure testing – (CB, 1 day) • Spec new optics – (CB, ½ day) • Alignment with the testbed – (CB, 2 days) • Plan for testing and incorporating new optics – (CB, 1 day) • Mechanical…
Mechanical Engineering Update Khahn expects to be finished working on the HOWFS/Acam by end of next week.
Schedule • Mechanical finished – next few weeks • SciMeasure modes - ? • Integration with testbed (no DM) – 3-4 weeks • Order testbed collimator/cylinder – after F/# established • Integration with DM in testbed – 6-10 weeks • Integration on PALM-AO bench – next year
Management Summary Total labor: • CB – ~8 days • JR – CCD testing modes, integration • ME – 1 week from Khanh Bui • AB – integration Equipment costs: • SciMeasure camera modes - ? • New optics (col, cyl) ~ $1000
