  4. The straight facts • 3.8 million are working in Pakistan out of total 40 million children • 50% of these economically active children on full-time basis. Of the 3.3 million working 73%(2.4 mil) were boys, and 27%(.9 mil) girls. • They work in factories with chemicals, pesticides, agriculture, or mines. • Soccer balls, carpets, and surgical instruments are made • ????

  5. Education • Many kids not educated • Low school enrollment • Youth rate for young males 80% • Youth rate for younf females is 60% • In Japan 1% non-literate

  6. The Process • Poor and ill families • Come across debt • Father chooses one of the children to work • Treated with poor care from horrible masters

  7. Failed Inspection • Children covered in filth • Unstable conditions: • Crumbly walls • Tin Roofs • Dirt Floors • Human waste everywhere

  8. The Factories Act 1934 ~allows children under the age of 14 to work ~no adult employee ~9 hours a day, 48 hours a week ~not allowed to work in factory between 7 pm and 6am
