  1. The Europeana Librariesproject andthe “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, the Library participationMadrid - 2012

  2. The participation of Romania in the Europeana Digital Library was not significant until two years ago. • Through the Europeana Libraries Project: • the Library of the Romanian Academy and • the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu • had contributed with a rich and a high quality digitized content, thus enriching the image of the Romanian culture in Europeana.

  3. For the ”Lucian Blaga” University from Sibiu, it was a challenge and an honor to take part in the project together with the most important Research Libraries from Europe. We had the opportunity to see how the big important European libraries are organized and function ( Europeana, CENL, TEL, CERL), we gathered a rich professional experience, beginning with preparing the digital material and ending with its processing, cataloguing and delivering.

  4. There was a great opportunity for us to promote our university as an institution providing knowledge: • some of the local and national cultural richness ( books or cultural events) are available now in digital format in Europeana. • The partnership between the University and the mayoralty of Sibiu, made possible the promotion of the major cultural event of 2007: „Sibiu - European Capital of Culture”. • There was a year very rich major cultural event as you can see in the pictures and videos of our digital collections.

  5. Digital collections of the University of Sibiu • The Library of the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, contributes to Europeana with 2 collections: • - ‘Old and Rare Books’ – over 2400 pages scanned from books with Cyrillic, old Gothic and Latin characters; • - ‘Sibiu – European Capital of Culture, 2007’ – over 1500 images of the events: theater plays, concerts, street shows …. • Sibiu - Digital Library is an DSpace repository at • http://digital-library.ulbsibiu.ro/dspace .

  10. The “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu through its library is organizing every year the International Conference on Information Science and Information Literacy ( April, 2013, the 4th edition ) It was a good opportunity for us to present the Europeana and our participation in the Europeana Libraries Project.

  11. We also tried to inform the librarians all over Romania, during our professional meetings, about these digital resources about the European culture, which were not so well known and explored.

  12. Based on the partenship between • the University of Sibiu and • the Brukenthal Museum - a true Romanian/European Brand, • we are working now at the digitization of the great works of cultural and documentary value. • With this collection we are taking part in the e-Cloud project. • In the future, we consider extending the local collaboration with the „Astra” County Library, the Teutsch Cultural Center and more, • with the University Central Library of Cluj, the University Library of Alba-Iulia, in order • to develop a digital library of the Transylvanian region.

  13. Future participation: For the future, the University of Sibiu wants to continue working with the European partners, through the e-Cloud project and the future structure organization of the European Library. So, we want to promote the cultural richness of our region, its multicultural values.

  14. Thank you ! Greetings from Sibiu ! bcu@ulbsibiu.ro
