  1. KAFALA In the heart of the Persian Gulf, a journalist seeks to unravel a mystery of labor, culture, and abuse. In 2010, I journeyed to Kuwait to complete a documentary about the Kafala sponsorship system. Over a period of three years, I collected interviews with Filipino domestic workers, Kuwaiti activist, policy makers, and humanitarians. Kafalawas the result of these interviews. Centering around four Filipina maids, the play exposes the abuses in a broken system, as well as challenges of foreign intervention. 6. HARD TIMES This is a memory book rather than one of hard fact and precise statistic….It is simply an attempt to get the story of the holocaust known as The Great Depression from an improvised battalion of survivors" -Studs Terkel Based on Stud Terkel's book of the same name, Hard Times tells the story of the Great Depression through a woman's eyes. Shown through ballet and movement, the piece explores the complexities and challenges faced by a variety of women. Through triumph and failure, they share their heartwarming, and often comic stories of survival  during one of the worst economic crises.  Performed October 2010 + 2012The John Wells Video Studio at Carnegie Mellon University PRODUCTION CREDITS: Director Andrea Beschel Lighting Hannah Dubrow Costumes Mary Lepiane Choreography Mitch Marois Actors Mary Nepi, Jordan Philips, Thomas Constantine Moore, Taylor Rose, Michele Veintimilla, Tsilala Graham-Haynes, Jimmy Nicholas
