  5. Here Is a Chart I took From A Marriage Class That Reflects How Individuals Can Express their Commitment:

  6. Commitment ISSUES • They say stem from anxiety about commitment, but this anxiety can manifest in numerous ways. Some people might be eager to commit to a long-term relationship, then slowly withdraw from the relationship months or weeks later. These people often bounce from intense relationship to intense relationship, with little understanding of what went wrong. Other people are fearful of becoming emotionally entangled with another person and may avoid monogamous relationships. They might, for example, only have one night stands or refuse to date just one person. People involved in relationships with people who are afraid of commitment sometimes feel led on.

  7. Commitment ISSUES CONTINUED • In popular culture, men are often presented as the sex most likely to have commitment issues. The popular book “He's Just Not That Into You,” for example, detailed the behavior of men who are unwilling to commit to a relationship. Both men and women, however, can struggle with commitment issues, and there's little evidence that men are more likely to struggle with commitment.

  8. What Causes Commitment Issues? Commitment issues can be caused by a single trauma, early childhood stress, or a series of small events. Factors that commonly contribute to fears of commitment include: • Parents' divorce or marital problems • Fear of ending up in a miserable relationship • Media portrayal of the misery of committed relationships • A desire for frequent, new encounters • Damaging previous relationships that included infidelity, abuse, or abandonment • Attachment issues • Difficulty trusting others

  10. Facts: Why is it so Risky? Approximately 50% of 15 to 19-year-olds are having sexual intercourse. We also know that only 29.8% of those who are sexually active use any kind of contraception – including condoms In Canada, 45,000 teenage girls become pregnant each year. According to Health Canada, the rate of teen pregnancy has risen over the past 10 years While Canada has a much lower teen pregnancy rate than that of the United States, our rate is still higher than many other industrialized countries such as Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and Japan Sexually transmitted infections represent another major cause of morbidity associated with teen sexual activity. In Canada, teenage girls have the highest chlamydia and gonorrhea rates compared with any other age groups Further, according to a Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) report, one-half of all new human immunodeficiency virus infections worldwide are occurring among youth (8).
