Reconciling Variance and Process Strategies for Studying Information System Development

This study by R. Sabherwal and D. Robey explores the relationship between variance and process strategies in information system development (ISD). Focusing on factors like independent variables, user participation, top management support, and system’s technical quality, the authors analyze how social processes, conflict management, and communication affect learning and outcomes in ISD. Using data from 50 student teams, the research identifies 1,056 actions, linking who they are, what they do, and how they do it, providing valuable insights into successful ISD practices.
