LEVEL II,inc. 22 Years of Premier Public Safety Systems
Our System Product Families • Secure Digital Communication Networks • Computer Aided Dispatching, with adjuncts: • Geographic Information System • Automatic Vehicle Location • Wireless Field Unit Communications • Intelligent Archives (Resource for Historical State Snapshot and Replay)
Software Procedural RT Small Tasks: Chiefly Assembly, critical items microcode. RT Tasks in C Language, some Assembly Code for device management Large Processes in UNIX-like environment, C Lang. Object Design and Programming — C, C++ and Java in Software Tiers 2 and 3. MAGUS A New Millennium's Message Switch • Windows NT Server Process — Almost Infinitely Scalable, from 1 to 1000 / sec. • Revolutionary Administration Facilities • Never Needs leave service to Add or Change Message Processing • All message processing logic, server and client, in scripting language of your choice: VBasic, JavaScript, Perl, Python, Etc. • World Wide Web Technology Throughout!
MAGUS : More Features • Many platform types: • Fully Fault Tolerant • High Reliability • Powerful, Large to Huge • Economic, Small • Message Spawning: Conditional, Unconditional and Derived • Message Logging: Short Term for frequent recall, Long Term via adjunct: JOURNAL
MAGUS : More Features • Message Reformatting • Message Editing (several types) • Message Acknowledgement (Application to Application) • Network Management — facilitating reconfiguration of all lines, under various protocols • Translates Protocols appropriately, e.g., TCP to Custom Bisync
MAGUS : More Features • Translates Information Codes appropriately, e.g., ASCII to EBCDIIC • Produces basic suite of network performance reports, over hourly collections of data, and message statistics • Full "Lights Out" Operating Faculties • Access control via full security features • Group Addressing: Terminals, Printers, Regional Systems (say, CAD)
MAGUS : More Features • Message Aging Facility • Memo Subsystem (for recall) • NOAA Interface • Multiple and Remote System Consoles • NCIC2000 Compliance • Image Management (e.g., mug shots, tattoos, distinguishing marks) at workstations authorized to browse archive • And, much more!
THE JOURNAL: Our Active Archival System • Active Archives are Data Repositories That: • Can hold huge volumes of data — terabytes! • Accept limitless record formats, with no programming needed to: • Add new record types, • Change records’ formats • Discontinue archiving record types
THE JOURNAL : Does What Else • Accommodates content-based record searches at speeds approaching indexed databases’ • Lets Search arguments: • Be arbitrary substrings of records’ contents • Contain “wild card characters” • Comprise multiple substrings that are joined by the conjunctions AND and OR, or associated parenthetically.
THE JOURNAL: And What Else? • Provides Periodic and ad hoc statistical analyses, supporting: • Networks’ usage basis billing • Networks’ optimal configurations • Etc. • Allows retrieval and study from archives client terminals or your own systems’ UI • Much more.
Database Requirements • The JOURNAL Server’s extraction processes RequireSQL Server as a temporary store for records selected and retrieved from the Archive. SQL Server interacts with the JOURNAL Client software, Crystal Reports, et al, to yield adhoc analyses of the archive’s contents. Archived data are not accessible to a database management system.
Today’s Three-Tier Software First Tier: Controls Appearance of Displays and Visible Behavior of the System — Easy, Choice of Std. Languages, Browser Second Tier: Business Logic of System — Medium to Difficult—Systems Language. Third Tier: Interacts with Subsystems, Data Repositories, Communications, Etc. — Difficult, low-level Systems Language.
Today’s Three-Tier Software — Advantages for its Users • Dispatching Operations Need Never be Changed to Accommodate the Computer! • Repeat: Dispatching Operations Change Only As and When Merited! • The behavior of systems can almost always be altered and extended by local technical staff! • If Outside Staff are Needed, Cost Will Be Vastly Less than for Older Designs.
Some Elements of Bottom Two Tiers of Our Existing CAD System • Sophisticated GIS Identification of 25+ Services for every Point Location in Dispatching Domain • Supports Management of Multi-Jurisdiction and -Agency Pursuits • Automated Call Distribution • News Media Support (Now via WWW) • Full Allied Service Agency Information
More Elements of Bottom Two Tiers of Our Existing CAD • Address Verification • Nearby Incident Alert • Automated Tow Rotation • Location Alerts • Digital Dispatching and Status Updates • Workstation Monitoring • Suspend and Recall in-process Incidents (Top Tier)
Imminent Changes to Our CAD Systems’ First Tier Software • Browser Suiting GUI-Oriented Program Language, e.g., MS Visual Basic or Jscript • Map-Thematic Presentation • Three action alternatives • Iconic (e.g., Drag and Drop Dispatch) • Form entry via key stroke or mouse click • Command line entry • Easier to show than to explain
