Access to Bristol September 2013 The Access to Bristol scheme is an initiative that provides local students with an unprecedented opportunity to experience life at the University of Bristol, gaining access to its academic expertise and facilities. The scheme is designed as a curriculum enrichment opportunity for students studying A-levels or equivalents and is open to all students in the first or second year of A-level study

  3. Access to Bristol September 2013 How does it work? The Access to Bristol programme runs twice throughout the year. There are eight sessions on Wednesday afternoons – an introductory session, six subject taster sessions and a concluding session about applying for university. Access to Bristol September 2013 Subjects streams: • Geography • Historical Studies • Law (Pathways to Law; two years – Year 12s only) • Mathematics • Modern Languages • Natural Sciences • Politics • Psychology • Social Policy • Sociology • Sociology, Social Policy and Politics • Theology and Religious Studies Animal Sciences Archaeology and Anthropology Arts and Humanities Biomedical Sciences Chemistry Earth Sciences Economics, Finance and Management Engineering English Literature Film and Theatre

Pathways to Law (Two-Year Programme, year 12 only) Academic sessions at the University Work placement at a law firm National Conference at the University of Warwick Year 13 sessions - Trip to Bristol Crown Courts, Bail Thrashing session with the College of Law, Trip to the Inner Temple, Graduation Ceremony in London

Access to Bristol September 2013 Additional activities For 2013/14 the scheme will also include: Societies Taster session (one evening per programme): This will take place at the Students’ Union and allow participants to sample a range of the university clubs and societies on offer. Graduation ceremony: Successful participants from both terms and their families will be invited to a celebration evening on 23 April where we will present you with your certificate

Access to Bristol September 2013 Benefits of the scheme There are a range of general benefits of the scheme: It will look great on the UCAS form – attending schemes like this shows that pupils have a real motivation and commitment to their studies. A great opportunity to meet a wide variety of people from the local area. A chance to get an insight into what it is like to study their particular subject. The chance to ask questions to our current staff and students and get tips and advice for the future. Plus for Access to Bristol graduates who apply to the University of Bristol there are two further benefits in place

For Access to Bristol graduates who apply to the University of Bristol Access to Bristol September 2013 A Guaranteed Offer for the University of Bristol Access to Bristol graduates who apply to the University of Bristol and meet the entry requirements for their chosen course will be guaranteed an offer. This shows how highly we regard students who take part in the scheme. If a course interviews, students will be guaranteed an interview (rather than offer). Must apply within three years of Access to Bristol and must do any additional admissions tests. Students from low performing schools will be eligible for a contextual offer.

For Access to Bristol graduates who apply to the University of Bristol Access to Bristol September 2013 The Access to Bristol Bursary We are delighted to offer a linked bursary scheme for Access to Bristol participants. If you complete the Access to Bristol programme and firmly accept an offer to study at the University of Bristol, you will be considered for our enhanced financial support package if you have a residual household income of £25,000 or below. This consists of: A full tuition fee waiver, plus; An annual maintenance grant valued at £3,750

  10. Access to Bristol September 2013 Who can apply? The Access to Bristol scheme is very popular and as such we are looking for particular students to apply for the available places. Priority is given to students in the following categories: Local students (resident in BS, BA or other local postcodes); Those with the academic ability to study at the University of Bristol; Those who are part of the first generation in their family to go to university; Those living in a Low Participation Area (LPA).

  11. Access to Bristol September 2013 How to apply Application for Access to Bristol is open now. This is via an online application form at www.bristol.ac.uk/access-to-bristol The deadline for applications is 28th September 2013. Applications received after this date may not be considered.
