BLENDINGEnvironmental Impact Ian Carswell Workshop 25 May 2004, Brussels
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT • CO2 EMMISSIONS • With every tonne of Portland cement produced, about one ton of CO2 is released to the environment • Greenhouse effect and global warming with CO2 emissions • The use of hydraulic bound materials reduces CO2 emissions associated with cement. • An energy audit for SBM revealed energy savings of 10-15% compared to asphalt bases in road construction
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT • VIEWS ON BLENDING • Improved performance • Leeching
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT • USE OF INERT FINE PARTICLES • Good Idea – gets rid of dust in high value application • Particle shape • Compensate between increase in fines and increased H2O required.
