  9. Lecture/Course contents • Physics • Physiology • Decompression • Equipment • Gas management • Dive & Operational Planning • Survival • Dive planning workshop • Theory test • Dives

  10. Theory Exam & Dives • Theory Exam • Open Book • 75 minutes • Pass mark 80% • Must pass before doing open-water dives • Open-Water Dives • 4 dives • Minimum 100 min total bottom time • Maximum 2 dives per day • Configured for ERN diving • Manifold twin –sets & two side mounts • Demonstrate competent dive practice

  11. Dives Format - Dive 1 • Max depth 10m • Practice skills & refine kit configuration • Gas shut-downs, static and on the swim. • Navigational techniques – including belaying a line. • Minimum of two SMB deployments (one mid-water) which must be competently performed. • Follow a line without a mask. • With original mask removed from the face, retrieve spare mask and re-fit. • Correct use of run-time method of dive planning. • Out of air drills and swim 20m using buddy’s gas source with no mask. • Correct gas switching. • Removal of side-mount, exchange with buddy and attach buddy’s side-mount in its place.

  12. Dives Format - Dive 2 • Depth 20 – 30m • Differing mixes in stage cylinders • Minimum of two SMB deployments (one mid-water) which must be competently performed. • Gas shut-downs, static and on the swim. • Navigational techniques – including belaying a line. • Correct use of run-time method of dive planning. • Correct gas switching. • Removal of side-mount, exchange with buddy and attach buddy’s side-mount in its place. • Use of decompression station.

  13. Dives Format - Dive 3 • Depth 20 – 30m • Differing mixes in stage cylinders • Gas shut-downs, static and on the swim. • Navigational techniques – including belaying a line. • Correct use of run-time method of dive planning. • Correct gas switching. • Deployment of a second SMB from 6m stop to simulate signalling a low gas situation to the surface. • Removal of side-mount, exchange with buddy and attach buddy’s side-mount in its place. Performed at 6m deco bar. • Use of decompression station and jon-line.

  14. Dives Format - Dive 4 • Depth 45 – 50m • Minimum 15 min stage decompression • Differing mixes in stage cylinders • Navigational techniques – including belaying a line. • Correct use of run-time method of dive planning. • Correct gas switching. • Use of decompression station.
