General information • San Diego is the eighth-largest city in the UK and second-largest city in California • It is located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California • San Diego was the first site visited by Europeans on what is now the West Coast of the United States • In 1821, San Diego became part of newly independent Mexico, and in 1850, became part of the United States following the Mexican-American War and the admission of California to the union.

  5. Important facts about San Diego • San Diego was earlier named San Miguel by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo; the first Portuguese explorer to land here. But it was renamed San Diego by Sebastian Vizcaino. • Famous for its miles and miles of white-sand beaches and amazing weather, the city offers an abundance of fun attractions for visitors of all ages. • San Diego, California is famed for the best climate in the United States.

She was the first baby panda to be born in the Western Hemisphere since 1990.

  14. Balboa Park • Built fot temporary use in 1915, but kept • The largest cultural park in America • Has more then 25 museums and attractions • You can: walk, ride a bike, see a Tony-Awardwinning play, ride a carousel or visit the San DiegoZoo • Balboa is located in east downtown
