  5. The support of UTCs forms part of the University’s strategy for raising educational aspirations in the region Contributing to economic regeneration Promoting the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Why: University links with UTCs

  6. The University currently sponsors 3 UTCs: - Black Country Engineering UTC (opened Sept 2011) For Sept 2015: - West Midlands Construction UTC (WMCUTC) - Health Futures UTC What: University links with UTCs

  7. UoW co-sponsors with Walsall College and CITB High level of employer engagement University integrally involved with curriculum development: - construction/built environment - ICT/Computing University guarantees place on degree programmes for given levels of achievement WMCUTC

  8. Supporting a UTC is not a trivial task and represents a significant investment on the part of the University (and Academic Faculty involved) To be successful, a fully costed project plan should be defined and appropriate budgets allocated to faculties and service departments. BEWARE of potential (?) gap between the logistical and financial commitments made during the bid process and the resources and budgets allocated for the development process.
