  3. GOALS OF MARKETING PROGRAM -Product Promotion - Product Recognition - Create Product Sales - Promote Brand/Company Recognition - Introduction of New Products - Company Public Relations - Referring to any activity which creates goodwill for the company

  4. PRODUCT PROMOTION - Promotional Types - Media - Print Media -Including newspapers, magazines, direct mailing, billboards and other advertising. - Broadcast Media - Radio - Television - Internet - Usage as a marketing tool is exploding, in agriculture too.

  5. PRODUCT PROMOTION CONT. - Specialty Promotional Items - Hats - Pens - Calendars - Shirts - Etc. - Business Cards, Letterheads and Notepads.

  6. COMPANY and BRAND RECOGNITION Logo/Company Become Linked - Nike and Swoosh -great job of creating brand recognition. - Was stylized from original, within the first couple of years of the company, and has been the standard ever since. -FYI, NIKE - 2009 Total Revenue $19.2 Billion - $ 1 Billion in the marketing budget - Includes Promotion and endorsements. Jordan, Woods etc.

  7. Value-added • Taking a product and changing the way it is marketed in order to increase what it is worth (value) • This typically involves adding utility to the product marketing

  8. Utility: four types • Form utility • Place utility • Time utility • Possession utility marketing

  9. Form Utility • Changing the form of the product to increase its value • Processing, packaging, etc marketing

  10. Place Utility • Adding value by moving the product • Shipping to a country that does not produce that product • Moving from rural areas to urban marketing

  11. Possession Utility • Making it easier to buy the product • Moving product from producer to wholesaler to retailer marketing

  12. Time Utility • Adding value by storing a product • Storing grain from harvest until winter/spring • Freezing/refrigerating products marketing

  13. MARKETING IS PROMOTION - Promotion: Any form of communication used to inform, persuade, or remind the public about a business’s products, or to improve its public image. - Includes - Advertising - Publicity - Sales promotion - Personal sales
