  4. Beliefs • Strong supporter of active government programs and reforms • Internal Improvements (American System) • Institutions • Market Economy • Support from manufacturers, planters, merchants and bankers

  5. Claims • "Conservatives" • Claimed themselves to be the “defenders of the common man.” • Made Democrats out to be “imperious aristocrats.” • “King Andrew I”- too much power
