  2. Catholic Network Australia CNA is operating now in the education sector: • Across 28 dioceses and Religious Institutes • Over 1,550 Catholic primary and secondary education sites. • More than 750,000 students will have access to education services through CNA.

Catholic Network Australia About Catholic Network Australia (CNA) • CNA was establishedby the Australian Catholic Bishops to provide a secure, equitable and cost effective IT network. • CNA has established a national broadband network linking Catholic schools across the country. • CNA will eventually provide a single network for all Australian Catholic agencies and parishes.

Catholic Network Australia Participating in CNA provides many benefits: • The opportunity for Catholic schools and agencies to be at the forefront of ICT provision and capacity in education. • The opportunity to share exemplary practice, content and resources across all Catholic schools Australia-wide e.g. National Curriculum • Create online collaborative learning communities e.g. Blogs and Wikis • Facilitate sharing of contemporary learning resources. • Supportprofessional learning e.g. Models of Contemporary Learning • Ability to promote and support partnerships e.g. Apple iTunes U • Facilitate innovation in resource creation and sharing.

Catholic Network Australia Initial CNA education services include: • CNA Portal to house and locate Education Resources, • CNA Education Directory and associated identity management system, • CNA Catholic Schools Locator, • Facilities to publish models of learning and online resources to support contemporary learning, and • Professional development programs using the Learning Federation (TLF) Sharing Exchange automatic registration of staff at CNA sites to access the TLF Scootle service. Scootle provides access to more than 8,990 items of digital curriculum content.

Catholic Network Australia Future initiatives that are currently being investigated: • Video conferencing to allow for greater staff and student collaboration at CNA education sites. • The publication of content for students using platforms such as iTunes U. • A framework for the development of a National Catholic Learning Platform.

  12. Catholic Network Australia Type “mcl” in the search engine to view the examples of Models of Contemporary Learning” produced by Catholic Australian Dioceses. There are 27 Models of Contemporary Learning (MCLs) at present. You can also go to the home page tab to access the TLFs Learning Federation Learning Objects and Assets. You can also create Student Learning Pathways through Scootle.

  13. Catholic Network Australia You should now be able to view the MCLs. To get a better view click on the tab “Gallery View “ … this is located left of the screen above the first model displayed.

  15. Each model provides meta data about its educational value.Clicking on the title displays the Model of Contemporary Learning (MCL) framework.

  16. In the centre of each MCL there is a video story of learning. This story provides an overview of the learning sequence – and involves student and teacher voice articulating the learning intention, how it was developed and how the learning was uncovered.

  17. Around the outside of the story are eight dimensions of contemporary learning. These are intended to add value to and support the central story of learning.Each dimension contains a number of elements. For a model to be considered for publishing as a CNA Education Resource, there must be evidence of at least one element or more element of every dimension.
