  1. Word of the Week Fairness- Being honest and just Agenda Message Have syllabus signed to return tomorrow. Autobiography due Friday January 7, 2011 January 5, 2011 • Standard: EDU-HGD-1. Students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the academic subject matter required for proficiency within their area. Academic standards are integrated throughout the standard statements within their applicable discipline areas and documented immediately following the standard statement. • Essential Question: What is expected of me while I am in Mrs. Brook’s class? • Warm Up • Interest Inventory • Activities • Yes/No Forms • Go over school forms and policies • Go over classroom expectations and procedures. • Home work-Autobiography due Friday January 7, 2011

  2. Welcome Back! Mrs. Brook

  3. Beginning of Class • School begins at 8:30 • Breakfast is to be consumed in the cafeteria. • Late Bus • Pledge • Moment of Silence • Announcements

  4. Yes/No Forms • Make sure your name is on the form. • Write your advisor’s name. • Section is advisement group • Write 2nd semester 1011 • Write Human Growth and Development under scheduled class. • Circle yes • Print my name- Leslie Brook Review student information sheet for accuracy and make any changes.

  5. House Rules(page 5 in your agenda) • Always be on time and prepared to learn. • No passes out the first/last 15 minutes of class. • No hats, hoods, headbands, and/or head garments of any kind worn in the school building. • No electronic devices visible or heard. There will be no warnings. • No standing waiting on bell • Please pick up after yourself. • Must wear school ids.

Attendance • Late bell-not a suggestion • Tardies-to school have started over • To 2nd period-I will start giving out detentions tomorrow. • Absences-page 13-16 in agenda • Excused absences • Unexcused absences School absences do not start over-once you reach 10 absences for the year you must have a doctor’s note to be excused.

  8. Dress Code • Page 17-19 in agenda book/page 30-31 in DCSS high school policies and procedures handbook • Gentlemen you must have shirts tucked in and pants pulled up • Ladies-leggings are not considered pants. If your top is not long enough without the leggings then you are in violation of dress code. • Acceptable • Non Acceptable • IDs

Substitute Teacher • There will be a transparency or slide with your assignment (s). • You are responsible for what is on the transparency-NOT THE SUB. • Busy work is not given- work will be taken up and graded and will appear on the next test. • You will be written up for classroom disturbance, insubordination and any other infraction if the sub leaves a note describing your inappropriate behavior.

Make up work • Must show excuse within THREE DAYS. • Must make up work within in FIVE DAYS. • No make up work for unexcused absences. • Doctor’s note required after TEN absences. • Not excused- family vacations, emergencies, lack of transportation, babysitting, out of town. • The only accepted excuses (these are state mandates)- • Personal illness/some family illnesses(immediate) • Doctor’s and dental appointments • Court/military • Death in immediate family

  12. Make up work continued • All make up work is completed outside of class. • Tests must be made up in the mornings. • Rare exceptions I will allow tests to be made up in the afternoon. NEVER IN CLASS!

Grading A- (90+) excellent work, attitude, attendance B- (80-89) above average work, great attitude, good attendance C- (74-79)average- you typically did not do anything extra, you do not complete work on a daily basis, you spend little or no time studying for a test. You may also have numerous absences (including ISS). D- (70-73)-below average F- (69-below)Failing-Usually lots of absences (5+) Never studies for a test. Never completes classwork. Never turns in projects on time. • Attitude and disrespect is not your interpretation, but the interpretation held by others. If you want to be treated with respect you must first give it and not argue with adults if they tell you that you are being disrespectful. Using good manners (please, thank you, yes/no ma’am, sir with the right tone) will serve you well. A students conduct themselves as A students. Always prepared. Always in seat when bell rings. Always attentive. Just because you want an A does not mean you have EARNED an A.

  14. Cheating • Passing off someone else’s work as your own. • Copying • Not keeping your eyes on your own paper. • Using unethical means to get a grade. • Says A LOT about your character. • Will get you a zero if caught. • Will get you a zero if you gave someone else your work to copy. • Will land you in ISS.

  15. Attendance Incentive • For every week you are not absent nor tardy-excused or unexcused, you will receive ¼ of a point added to your final average. • Perfect would mean 4.25-4.5 points could be added to your final average. • Because of this, I do not round up averages. • Only exception would be a student who has a perfect attendance record and would need less than ½ point to meet the next letter grade. • Excused tardies from other teachers and the office (including guidance) count against you for incentive purposes. The only tardies that are the exception-late bus. • ISS, OSS, all absences and being called to the main office for disciplinary reasons count against you. • Field trips do not count against incentives.

  16. End of period procedures • Make sure your work in turned in. • Clean up area. • Stay in seat until bell rings. I dismiss you not the bell. • If you need to check out a book, you sign the card in the front of the book and give the card to me.

  17. Other Behavior Expectations • No food. • No drink. • Keep a notebook- at least once in the semester I will allow you to use your notebook on a test of my choosing. Also your final exam (in May)is comprehensive. • No grooming-It is just rude to do that in public!

Other behavior expectations • This is my classroom. • You will respect my rules and abide by them. • You will respect others. • I do not care what another teacher allows you to do-THIS IS MY CLASSROOM. • If you cannot abide by my rules –have your parents contact Mrs. Stinchcomb or your counselor to request a change.

  20. Baby Think It Over (BTIO) • Permission slips must be turned in before being assigned. • Turns to select weekend will be done by a lottery system. • Once you schedule, it will be your responsibility to find someone it you need to swap. • Everyone has to “take home the baby this weekend”. No one is any more special than any one else. • Babies are not sent home when I am out on a Friday or if we are not in school the following Monday.

  21. Panther PRIDE Program Panthers Receiving Incentives for Doing Exceptional Things Students will be rewarded at the beginning of each semester for their hard work the previous semester. Honor Card System (each semester) GOLD CARD: No absences, No office Referrals, All A’s on semester report card. SILVER CARD: No more than 1 absence, No office referrals, A’s & B’s at semester. BRONZE CARD: No more than 2 absences, No office referrals, C’s or higher at semester. PRIVILEGES include discount at CHHS sporting events, discounts on Prom, Lockers, Parking, free ice cream, leave for lunch early, tickets for drawings FOR CASH! TICKETS go into a bowl for drawing of COLD HARD CASH (gift cards)! SENIORS will get a chance to win a laptop at graduation practice!
