Video structure & files • Video has images and audio files • Many file types and ‘packages’ • MPEG, MOV, AVI, WMV, 3GP • High quality = very big files (Gigabytes) • DVD = 4,7GB or 9.4GB (double layer) • BlueRay HD = 25GB • Web quality = smaller files (Megabytes) • Much web video is Adobe Flash (.flv)

Important Concepts • Quick edits are possible • Does not degrade original files just uses markers • Needs a powerful PC especially if HD • HDD space if longer than a few minutes • Overscan if video used for TV (use safe margins) • Significant edit time for longer video • Significant rendering time for longer video • Original sound, narrative, music to consider • Easy to output to many formats
