  2. Introduction • 1931 – Empire State Building completed • 1932 – Amelia Earnhardt flies solo across the Atlantic – 1937 - Vanishes • 1932 – Lindbergh’s baby kidnapped • 1933 – Hitler becomes chancellor of Germany • 1933 – Prohibition Ends • 1934 – Dust Bowl • 1939 – World War II Begins

  3. Influences • 1939 – Knitted hosiery – Nylon • Synthetic fibers – widely used • Hollywood Movie Stars – Fred Astaire, Joan Crawford • Gone with the Wind – Wedding – full skirts with crinolines (1939)
