AP Seminar Schedule 9/2 Reminders: Read Common Logical Fallacies for 9/3-4 ● read Jekyll and Hyde for 9/8 • Objective: to understand and to learn to avoid basic logical fallacies • Essential Question (EQ): What factors make up a person’s identity? • Pass in Aristotle-Descartes Synthesis Paper • Discussion: “In what manner and to what is extent is Descartes Aristotle’s magnanimous man?” • Logic Presentation: • Pass out: Common Logical Fallacies sheet • Look at: Weak Analogy and Appeal to Authority v. ad hominem in Emby v. Connor • Look at: yourlogicalfallacyis.com • HW: Begin reading Jekyll and Hyde for next Monday
AP Seminar Schedule 9/3-4 Reminders: Read the other two articles for 9/5 ● read Jekyll and Hyde for 9/8 • Objective: to understand and use arguments presented by others • Essential Question (EQ): What factors make up a person’s identity? • Rainbow Discussion: • 20 min: Individual reading time with 1 article • 20 min: Group with readers of same article and discuss • 10 min: Respond to a question as your article’s author • 10 min each: Present responses by group • Brief Summary of Article • Response to Main Question • Response to Supporting Questions • Audience Questions • Remainder of Period: read the other articles and evaluate peer performance • HW: continue reading Jekyll and Hyde for next Monday
AP Seminar – Rainbow Questions • Main Question: What does your author or group of people think constitutes the integral and irreducible elements of identity? • Tyson Questions: • What role does communal reaction play in Tyson's sense of self or identity? • What would Tyson say about a "color-blind" approach? • Would Tyson argue that the locus of identity is internal or external?
AP Seminar – Rainbow Questions • Main Question: What does your author or group of people think constitutes the integral and irreducible elements of identity? • Cheese Article: • How have perceived or stated misperceptions of the poor influenced Cheese's representation of identity? • How would you characterize Cheese's moral identity in the context of the greater social structure (does he make moral judgments, of whom, what judgments, how can those judgments and other statements be used to create an overall vision of social order, etc.)? • Would Cheese argue that the locus of identity is internal or external?
