  2. Parabens • Parabens are any group of compounds used as preservatives in pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and in the food industry. But mostly in cosmetics. There are 6 types.

  3. Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in personal care products. They are used in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals. Some examples are hair care products, moisturizers, sunscreens, make-up, cereal, chips and nuts.

  4. People are concerned about exposure to Parabens because they have the potential to act like estrogen compounds in the body. Estrogens primarily impact the endocrine system, potentially creating an increased risk for cancer. • Some animals studies(mice) have shown that Parabens also decrease sperm quality, but did not cause birth defects.

  5. The impact it is having on wildlife is the same effect it is having on human systems. It effects the endocrine system. • Research shows that parabens are not regulated. They are not found in water either.

  6. Something we can do to minimize exposure to parabens are to reduce or so switch to paraben-free cosmetics. Some exposure may be unavoidable.

  7. Parabens safe to use in cosmetics, says European safety committee • The article states that parabens are safe to use as cosmetics preservatives although some of the compounds in the family should be reduced, according to an European safety committee. • In the report the committee states that human data was insufficient to fully characterize the effects of the substance on the hormonal system.
