Student Organizations – How do they positively impact students? • Encourage strong friendships • Improve time management and organizational skills among students • Improve social, interpersonal, and communication skills among students • Provide networking opportunities among professors, students, and other faculty members

  8. Student Organizations – Encourage Strong Friendships • Promote strong friendships that last a lifetime • Often built upon solid foundations (i.e. mutual interests, respect, morals, personal values)

  9. Student Organizations – Improve Time management and Organizational Skills • Students learn to plan ahead and schedule time for campus activities and clubs • Helps them prioritize their time and better understand their academic and social responsibilities

  14. Getting Involved - Greek • Recruitment (Rush/Pledging) • Each sorority/fraternity can chose who they feel will fit in with them best. • Occurs twice a year. • Fall & Spring • Depends how many spots are open in each house

  20. Volunteering • Service through the Feinstein Civic Engagement Program in University College • On-campus and off-campus opportunities available • Anything from tutoring to more manual labor type services

  21. Volunteering - Alternative Spring BReak • Travel to various destinations in attempts to aid an area in need • Fundraise to support trip costs • Have traveled to: • Austin, TX • New Orleans, LA • Washington D.C.

Volunteering – Civic Engagement Leaders • Upperclassmen that lead Freshman through the “Feinstein Experience” program • Cooperate in over 50 service projects with URI 101 classes • “… looking for energetic and enthusiastic students that are interested in inspiring their peers to get engaged in the community.”

  23. Volunteering - Jumpstart • National non-profit organization working toward preparing children to success in school. • Trains college students to serve as part-time AmeriCorps members working directly with children • Can also receive credit for the activity

  40. Guess That Club! • We put on a show in the fall and spring • Our shows are 100% student run and let members of the club showcase their skills in design, sewing, modeling, set design and many other aspects of production • Fashion Merchandising Society

  41. Guess That Club! • We teach everything from footwork up and welcome any student, regardless of experience or age • We supply the gear needed for practice and competition. No experience is needed to join - many who do join are beginners and you will not be alone • This is a teaching club and we have a wonderful instructor who is ranked nationally • Fencing Club

  42. Guess That Club! • Do you like Greek and Roman history and mythology? How about reading ancient Greek and Roman texts? Or studying ancient Greek and Latin? • We are a group from the URI Community that gather to share our interest in the ancient Mediterranean world • Classics Society
