History of mobiles • The first mobile phone was invented by Dr. Martin Cooper. • It was a Motorola DynaTAC prototype. • On April 3rd 1973, he called his rival Joel Engel, head of research at AT&T's Bell Labs while he was walking the streets of New York City. • In the 1940s, Motorola developed the Walkie-Talkie, a large hand-held two-way radio for the US military, and a backpacked two-way radio. • The USSR tested their own successful version of a radio mobile phone mounted inside a car. • The first modern handheld cell phone was invented in 1973 when Motorola invented the first cellular portable telephone to be commercialised, known as Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. • Soon, many companies started coming out with different mobile phones. • The Motorola StarTac was the first phone in the world with Vibrating alert function. It was released in North America on January 3, 1996. • By 2003, Blackberry begun to take the market by storm. • On January 9, 2007 Apple launched the iPhone to the public.
