  1. The Lazy Man’s Flag Raiser EF 151 Fall 2006

  2. Team ERTS™ • Everett Stiles • Freshman • Thompsons Station, TN • Computer Engineering • Ryan Trentham • Freshman • Sevierville, TN • Electrical Engineering • Tim McLerran • Freshman • Hermitage Springs, TN • Aerospace Engineering

  3. The Lazy Flag Raiser • Our device takes advantage of spring energy and gravitational potential energy to complete its task. • The task is a unique way to raise a flag.

  4. Energy Conversions • Potential Spring Energy -> Kinetic Energy • From the release of the spring, energy is transferred to the ball • Kinetic Energy -> Gravitational Potential Energy • The ball is projected up a ramp to a stop • Gravitational Potential Energy -> Kinetic Energy • The cup and ball system converts its potential energy to kinetic

  5. Conclusions • Successful? Yes • Learned • the application of the concepts from the previous modules to actual real life scenarios • Don’t touch hot glue • Problems? Hot glue not adhering to surfaces and stability • Do Differently: Plan ahead more.
