Cos’è un verbo reflessivo? • We recognize reflexive verbs because they have a –si attached to its infinitive. • Reflexive verb constructions do not exist in English. • Reflexive verbs are reflexive because the subject does the action to itself. • When conjugated all reflexive verbs are accompanied by a reflexive pronoun.

  5. How do we conjugate a reflexive verb? • vestirsi • We know it’s a reflexive verb because of the –si. • 1. drop the –si ending • 2. conjugate the verb regularly (vestire) • 3. choose the correct pronoun and place it in front of the conjugated verb. • I get dressed – mi vesto

  6. The infinitive • When the verb is in the infinitive you still have to place the correct pronoun. • When the verb is in theh infinitive you can leave the pronoun attached. • I have to get dressed. • Devo vestirmi.

Ti alzi subito? • Si fa la doccia e si lava i denti. • Ti lavi i denti la mattina? dopo pranzo? • Si pettina. • Si rade. • Quante volte alla settimana ti radi? • 6. Si veste. • Ti vesti velocemente, o devi pensare molto prima di vestirti? • 7. Esce di casa.

  11. Reflexive verbs and the passato prossimo • Reflexive verbs always take the verb essere in the passato prossimo. • The past participle agrees in number and gender with the subject. • The reflexive pronoun is placed before the essere. • Io mi sono svegliata. • Lui si è svegliato.
