Head Start Regional Oral Health Consultants 1) Provide oral health consultation/T/TA to Head Start Regional Office 2) Provide T/TA to state dental programs, dental/dental hygiene schools, licensure boards, and professional organizations, to increase/enhance access to care and preventive services for HS/EHS children. 3)Assist in identifying a cadre of dentists and dental hygienists as potential dental consultants to HS/EHS grantees.
Head Start Regional Oral Health Consultants 4)Provide T/TA to state/jurisdictional HS OH Forums, OHI Grantees and training sessions to various groups. 5)Provide assistance in identifying “models that work” in HS programs and disseminating information for replication. 6)Participate in efforts that promote, advocate and improve the oral of HS/EHS children and their families.
Region VI Head Start Oral Health Activities • Head Start OHI Grants (3 in Texas) • CE Course to teach dental hygienists /dentists about Head Start ( Oct 13, 2006) • Regional video clip to highlight Texas activities • Support Grantees own initiative projects ( Waco) • Head Start trainings on oral health throughout the Region
Activities • State Dental Directors and Head Start State Collaboration Directors conference calls to share models and establish communication between HS and Oral Health • Collaborations between other health care providers to enhance oral health • Collaborations between health profession students( dental/dental hygiene/nursing/PA /PNP/FNP)
Activities • National presentations : NOHC, Head Start Associations • Cluster trainings with individual grantees to help them find resources to meet the Head Start oral health Performance Standards • Participate in activities with the National Oral Health Resource Center Review and development of materials ( ie: Frequently asked questions )
Activities • Promote partnerships between organization s to promote oral health for Head Start children and families (TDA, TDHA, ADHA, State Oral Health Program) • ASTDD sponsored Head Start Regional and State Oral Health Forums • Follow up Forums to implement the state action plans developed from the initial forums
