Context • Upon the recommendation of the Environment Parliamentary Commission, • an inter-ministerial committee that was assigned by the Prime Minister in 2006 proposed the elaboration of a business plan to identify the measures that would alleviate pollution of the Litani River and QaraounLake • The issue was • Adopted by the 2009Government in its Policy Statement, • Reflected in the programme of work of the Ministry of Environment (2010-2012), and • Programmed for implementation with Government funds channelled through UNDP • To assist the Government of Lebanon and the Ministry of Environment in identifying the pollution sources of the Qaraoun Lake and to recommend appropriate solutions in the form of a Business Plan Aim of the Project
