  1. V.B POLYTECHNIC NAME : DESAI TAPAN .D. SEMISTER : 3rd sem DIV : B E.NO : 106550319098 BATCH NO : 105 SUB.NAME : MATERIAL TECHNOLOGY SEMINAR NAME : HEAT TREATMENT PROCESS

  2. Introduction To Heat Treatment *Definition of heat treatment: It defined as a sequential process of heating and cooling the steel components to get desired combination of properties in the components. The entire heat treatment process depends upon following three important principles. A) Phase transformation during heating. B) Structural changes during cooling due to different cooling rates. C) Effect of carbon content and other alloying elements.

  6. Procedure The following points shows the heat treatment process :- 1) Heating the components at higher temperature called austenitizing temperature. 2)Holding the steel at austeniting temperature for some time period for the formation of homogenous austenite. 3) Cooling back the part which is having homogenous austenite Structure to the room temperature. 4)Re heating of components to a higher temperature but lower critical temperature and cooling again.

  7. Procedure All heat treatment consist of three main parts as follows :- 1) Heating of metal to predetermined Temperature. 2) Soaking the metal till its structure becomes uniform through the mass. 3)Cooling of metal at a rate to cause the formation of desirable structure.

  8. Types of heat treatment process 1) Annealing process. 2)Normalizing process. 3)Hardening process. 4)Tempering Process. 5) Surface hardening process. a) induction hardening b) Flame hardening 6)Case hardening process. a) Carburizing b) Nitriding c) Cyaniding

  9. Advantage 1)Amount of pearlite is more in annealed structure. 2)Annealing process is more costly. 3)impact strength of annealed parts is less. Disadvantage 1)Amount pearlite is more in normalized structure. 2)Normalizing process is less costly. 3)impact strength of normalized parts is more Advantage & Disadvantage

  10. Heat treatment process Conclusion :- By use of heat treatment process we can prepare or perform different operation to prepare different component use in industries like boiler turbine etc.,also some household components.
