four or five times. Then they turn into a
chrysalis.

  5. Chrysalis (pupa) The chrysalis
blends in with
it's
backgrounds.
The butterflies
also stay in the
chrysalis for two
weeks.

Eat? Butterflies eat nectar and
fruit. More often they
eat nectar. They use
there proboscis to eat.

  9. Where Do Butterflies
Live? A butterfly lives in many places they
live in grasslands, woods, mountains
and rainforests. They mostly live in
dry places.

  10. This is Interesting! Butterflies do not make
houses. They live on
trees or leaves, even a
flower.

  11. How do Butterfly's
Bodies Help Them
Survive?

  12. Proboscis Proboscis is the tube
that they drink from and
keep nectar on so that
when they go to a new
flower they can let it out.
It uncoils and coils when
it flies.

  13. Spiracles Spiracles are openings
in their bodies that help
the butterflies stay alive.
They are not like us
because we breathe
through our mouths.

  14. Antennae The antennae are really
important because it
helps the butterfly smell.
Not like us, we smell
through our noses.

  15. Feet Butterflies use there feet
to taste if the nectar has
been tasted by another
butterfly or not. If it was,
she or he would not eat
it.

  16. Wings This is cool! A butterfly's
wings are very delicate
they need scales to help
them survive and fly.

  17. Eye Butterflies can have
compound eyes and
singular eyes.

  18. Interesting facts

  19. Special Characteristics
of Butterflies Butterflies are the
second largest lenders
of pollen after bees.
Also, butterflies can only
see red, yellow, and
green.

  20. Migrating A butterfly migrates over
25,000 miles in winter
time. Isn't that cool?

  21. Most
butterflies
migrate, but
some sleep
during winter
like grizzly
bears. Butterflies can't fly in
cold weather. They
have an ideal body
temperature of about 85
degrees Fahrenheit in
order to fly.

  22. There are different types
of eye spot . The top
wing is the dorsal
(forewing). The bottom
wing is called a hindwing. Eye Spot
