Redesign - Briefly • Over 150 Iowans have written standards, local criteria, and state criteria for Iowa’s public health governmental backbone. • Iowa plans to implement it’s own accreditation system and have at least one local agency and the state agency accredited by July 1, 2011. • Iowa will seek equivalency with the national standards.

  3. Local Preparation for Accreditation • Voluntary self-assessment completed summer 2007. (90 of 99 completed) • The average county completely meets a little more than 1/2 of the local criteria. • Participation in mini-collaboratives will be competitive.

  4. State Preparation for Accreditation • State assessment of ability to meet criteria currently underway. • Core team representing each division preparing evidence for a site visit after the first of the year.

  5. Crosswalks as Preparation • Core Functions/Ten Essential Services • Operational Definition of a Local Public Health Department • National Environmental Public Health Performance Standards (Local and State) • State Tool - National Public Health Performance Standards

  6. Quality Improvement Initiatives • Mini-Collaboratives • Training • Adding Quality Improvement to the Iowa Public Health Standards • Implementation Committees

  7. State supporting local efforts • Pilot programs • State assessment • Participation in the Multi-State Learning Collaborative

  8. Locals supporting state’s efforts • Participation on work group, standards committees, implementation committees • Pilot programs

  9. Mini-Collaboratives • Two local, one state • Initially focused on workforce • Workforce “issues” have been front and center in Iowa

  10. Interesting/Exciting • Momentum • Local/State Partnership • Blood, sweat, and tears

  11. Hopes/Long Term Goals • Every Iowan will have access to public health services-- equivalent public health services.
