Lincoln is Assassinated. April 14 th , 1865 5 days after Lee’s surrender Ford’s Theater John Wilkes Booth. Breaking the North. Co-conspirator Lewis Powell (or Paine/Payne) attempted to assassinate Secretary of State William Seward, but only managed to injure him.

  2. Breaking the North • Co-conspirator Lewis Powell (or Paine/Payne) attempted to assassinate Secretary of State William Seward, but only managed to injure him. • David Herold accompanied Powell. However, Herold fled before the deed was finished. • At the same time, George Atzerodt was supposed to have killed Vice-President Andrew Johnson. Atzerodt did not go through with the assassination. The South Will Rise Again!

The Conspirators • Eight Lincoln conspirators were caught over the next few days and tried by a military court. • They were found guilty on June 30 and given various sentences depending upon their involvement. • Lewis Powell (Paine), David Herold, George Atzerodt and Mary Surratt were charged with conspiring with Booth along with various other crimes and hanged on July 7, 1865.

  4. Lincoln Kennedy Coincidences -Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. -John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. -Both assassins were known by their three names. -Both names are composed of fifteen letters. -Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.' Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln.' -Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse. Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater. -Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. -Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. -Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. -The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters. -Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. -Both wives lost a child while living in the White House. -Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. -Both Presidents were shot in the head. -Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln. -Both were assassinated by Southerners. -Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.
