WEDNESDAY COURIER PRINCIPAL’S NEWSLETTER #19 January 5, 2011 SCS-GSW EARLY COLLEGE “Growing Lifelong Learners” Report Cards Principal's Spotlight Report Cards for the 1st semester will go home on Wednesday 1/12/11. Report cards will include official semester averages as well as EOCT scores for applicable classes. Parent Night & Open House Welcome back,We hope you had a safe and restful winter break. We are very excited to begin a new semester. We will have a busy first week with many activities planned for your students. Each teacher will send home the 9-weeks expectations for the courses your child is taking this semester. These expectation letters describe the curriculum that will be taught, and what students are expected to know and be able to do in order to be successful in each course. The expectation letters are also available on our webpage Simply go to:http://ec.sumterschools.orgThen click the “9-weeks expectation letters” link on the left side of the screen.Students enrolled in Economics, US History, English 11, Math 2, and/or Biology will take the ThinkGate/Elements pre-test during the week of January 10-14. These assessments help us identify strengths and weaknesses in learning and help us to individualize instruction for your child. The scores from these tests will be sent home on February 2, 2011.We look forward to meeting you at our open house/parent night on January 10th.As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns.Sincerely,Jeremy A. You can meet your child’s 2nd semester teachers and preview his/her 1st semester report card. Teachers will be in their classrooms to meet with parents/guardians from 5:30-7:00pm. EOCT's We are offering the following EOCT courses this semester: Economics U.S. History English 11 Math 2 Biology Students enrolled in these courses will receive an EOCT study guide packet and will take a series of diagnostic pre & post tests throughout the semester. The EOCT is a state required test that counts as the student’s final exam for the course. It is extremely important that your child does well on these exams. If you have any questions about state required testing, please call the school. The mission of Early College is to provide continuous life-long opportunities for goal oriented graduates who will blaze a path for extraordinary beginnings.
