  1. Scheduling For 2011-2012

  2. Higher Education is well worth the time and effort. With the reality based choices students will face after graduation, our motto is “Tyler ISD Goes To College”, defining college as training after high school. Think about your interests, gifts, and talents, and the job that will allow you to best use them--find out what training, certificate, or degree is necessary to qualify for that job and then go for it!

  3. Higher Education is well worth the time and effort. Average Salaries (Bureau of Labor Statistics) • No HS Diploma $23,608 • HS Diploma $32,552 • Associate’s Degree (2 yrs) $39,572 • Bachelor’s Degree (4 yrs) $53,300 • Master’s Degree $65,364 • Doctoral Degree $79,508 • Professional Degree $79,664

  4. Colleges look at: • Grades • Rank in class • SAT/ACT Scores • Strength of your coursework • Extracurricular Activities • Community Service • Leadership roles • Commitment

  5. How To Figure Class Rank Class rank is determined by adding all semester grades and extra points for advanced courses together and then dividing by the total number of semesters. A student earns five extra points for each PAP/PAP semester and earns 10 extra points for each AP/IB semester. Although added in for ranking purposes the extra points will not appear on the report card, the transcript or any other document. Class Rank is weighted.

  6. Calculating Rank Average PAP Algebra 1 75 80 Geometry 82 83 PAP Biology 80 75 IPC 82 75 75 + 80 + 82 + 83 + 80 +75 + 82 + 75 = 632 5 + 5 + 5 + 5=20 (extra points for PAP) 632+20=652/8= 81.5 (Rank Average)

  7. Calculating Grade Point Average The student’s Grade Point Average is calculated at the end of each semester and is cumulative throughout the student’s time at Lee High School. GPA is calculated by assigning a number to each semester grade. A (90-100)=4 ; B (80-89)=3 ; C (70-79)= 2 ; F (69 and below)=0. The numbers ( 4,3,2,0) are added together and then divided by the number of semesters. • The GPA is not weighted.

  8. Calculating HS Grade Point Average PAP Algebra 1 75 (2) 80 (3) Geometry 82 (3) 83 (3) PAP Biology 80 (3) 75 (2) IPC 82 (3) 75 (2) 100-90 =A =4 89-80 =B =3 79-70 =C =2 Below 70 =F =0 2 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 =21 21/8= 2.62 GPA GPA is not weighted
