  1. Entangled Photon Generation in Jaynes-Cummings MoleculeLin Tian, University of California-Merced, DMR 0956064 A superconducting resonator, when coupled strongly to a superconducting qubit, forms the Jaynes-Cummings model which adds nonlinearity to the resonator spectrum. When connecting the resonators into a ring to allow the microwave photons to tunnel between adjacent resonators, we have a Jaynes-Cummings molecule. By exploring the symmetry and the energy gaps in the eigenstates of the Jaynes-Cummings molecule, novel quantum states such as entangled polariton pair and entangled photon pair can be generated by applying spectroscopic techniques. Such states can be used in quantum protocols in superconducting quantum devices in addition to superconducting qubits. Jaynes-Cummings Molecule Spectrum of the Molecule

  2. Entangled Photon Generation in Jaynes-Cummings Molecule Lin Tian, University of California-Merced, DMR 0956064 • Broader impact. Deterministic generation of entangled photons is crucial for implementing quantum information protocols involving microwave photons in superconducting systems. Our scheme can also be applied to semiconductor micro-cavities. • Education. Two graduate students passed quality exam and entered PHD candidacy in Spring 2011. One undergraduate student was selected to summer program at Caltech. • Presentations. The PI gave invited talks at conferences and seminars, e.g. KITPC workshop and IWSSQC4 Conference. • Outreach. The PI gave a guest lecture “A Future Computer” in the Frontier Lecture Series on Science and Engineering in the Challenger learning center at Atwater, CA. The audience includes local school students. Entangled Photons On-demand - towards quantum teleportation Challenger Learning Center, Atwater, CA
