In this STEM project, we investigated which diaper, Pampers or Cottontails, holds the most water without leaking. Inspired by our new baby cousin Bliss and our family's desire to save money, we tested both brands to determine their absorbency. We controlled variables such as the diaper size and the amount of water used. Our hypothesis predicted that Pampers would outperform Cottontails. After conducting the experiment, we found that Pampers indeed held more water, proving to be the more absorbent choice despite the higher price.

Stem Fair Project EXPLODED DIAPER! Which diaper will hold the most water without leaking? Tomas Rivera/ Ms Dascovitch/ Northview Elementary
Statement of The Question • Which diaper will hold the most water without leaking? Is it Pampers or Cottontails?
Project Overview • Our family has a new baby named Bliss. She is my baby cousin. My mom likes to always try to save money, so we want to find out if it is better to buy the more expensive diaper or the cheaper diaper.
Variables • Controlled variables- these variables will stay the same -size of the diaper -How much water is put in it • Independent variable- this is the one I change on purpose: brand of diaper: Pampers or Cottontails • Dependent which brand of diaper holds the most water.
Prediction or Hypothesis • I predict that Pampers will hold the most water
Materials • 3 size 4 cottontails diaper • 3 size 4 pampers diaper • One measuring cup • One gallon of water
Procedure • Purchase Pampers and Cottontails diaper • One gallon of water • Pour water into measuring cup • Pour one oz of water into each diaper wait five seconds, pour another once until one of the diapers starts to leak
Conclusion • The Pampers diapers were able to hold more water than cottontails. Even though Pampers were more expensive, they were the most absorbent.
