  2. Use of Articles • Before we start with the use of articles , we should know about vowel sounds and consonant sounds. • There are 26 letters in English alphabets a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z

  4. What Are Articles ? • The articles are the THREE LITTLE words "a," "an," and "the." They define whether something is specific or unspecific. • There are two types of article:

  5. Articles • The first kind of article is: • Definite. • The second kind of article is: • Indefinite.

Definite Article • There is one definite article. • It is the word THE. • THE is a definite article. • It indicates exactly. • It tells definitely which item we are talking about. • “The”is used before nouns that are singular or plural in number • “The” is also used before the names ofholy books, famous buildings. Example- The Red Fort, The Taj Mahal, The Bible etc.

  7. Definite Article Example • I'm the pirate. • (This means a specific pirate, i.e., the one previously discussed.) • It is a definite article.

  8. Indefinite Article • There are, 2 Indefinite articles. • The first one is ‘A’. • The second one is ‘An’. • A is used before any consonant. • An is used before any vowel sound. • “A”and “an” are used before nouns that are singular in number. • The use of “a” or “an” depends on the opening sound of the word not on the actual letter with which it begins.
