  2. Welcome To The Community This slide show is to provide you with additional information about the College; its many resources, the culture and the organization and to make you feel a part of the R-MWC Community.

  3. Purpose • Randolph-Macon Woman’s College offers a liberal arts education especially directed toward women in a setting where living and learning are integrated and where students are prepared for meaningful personal and professional lives. • All members of the College community contribute to this enterprise. • The curriculum stresses both breadth and depth in learning through the general education, major and concentration programs. • A Randolph-Macon education is designed to foster a wide range of abilities and attitudes that will serve the graduate well in whatever personal and professional roles she adopts.

Harassment • All employees must be treated with respect and dignity and it is a commitment of R-MWC that we provided an environment free of intimidation and harassment. • The college will not tolerate any actions or statements unlawfully directed at the sex, race, religion, or ethnic origin of employees or any actions or statements which threaten the safety or security of employees. • Sexual harassment is strictly prohibited. • Harassment on the basis of any other protected characteristic is also strictly prohibited. • Harassing conduct includes, but is not limited to: epithets, slurs, or negative stereotyping; threatening, intimidating or hostile acts; and written or graphic material that denigrates or shows hostility toward an individual or group. • Any individual found to have engaged in any form of harassment will be disciplined as appropriate, up to and including discharge. • Any concerns or questions should be brought to the attention of the Director of Human Resources. See your handbook for complete policy.

  6. Ethics • It’s everyone’s responsibility. • Fairness and integrity are a must. • If you have an issue, discuss it with your supervisor. • If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t right.

  7. Overview of Departments Admissions Office Is responsible for recruiting students, processing applications, and enrolling domestic and international students. Recruitment involves off-campus, on-campus, direct mail, publications, and web-based recruitment programs. Alumnae Office Serves as a point of contact for the many alumnae. It sponsors various programs to keep the alumnae in touch in addition to working closely with Admissions and Development. Approximately 13,000 alumnae.

Overview of Departments Business Office Manages the College’s Accounts Payable, Expense Reimbursements, Payroll, Student tuition accounts, Departmental budgets and Cashier for student organizations. Buildings & Grounds Maintains grounds and coordinates maintenance and housekeeping operations/ activities across campus.

  9. Overview of Departments Career Development Center Provides comprehensive career counseling and job search assistance for students and alumnae of the College. R-MWC ranks in the top 10 percent of institutions nationwide in the percentage of graduates who earn Ph.D.s in the sciences and in the top 13 percent of graduates who earn Ph.D.s in the non-sciences. Counseling Center Provides mental health counseling to students during the academic year. The Counseling Center staff also provides consultation to faculty and staff when they are concerned about a student, crisis intervention, and training to student groups such as RA’s.

Overview of Departments College Relations, Office of Is responsible for providing clear, consistent, and engaging messages that promote a better understanding of the College and its mission, and delivering those messages to the widest possible audience. This is done through print publications and the College web site, community and media relations efforts, and by providing assistance to other departments in accomplishing objectives consistent with the College’s mission.

  11. Overview of Departments Dean of the College Is the main resource for information concerning all areas of the academic program and faculty life here at the College. Dean of Students Has primary responsibilities for student life here on campus from health and counseling to residence halls.

  12. Overview of Departments Development Office Is responsible for creating opportunities for alumnae, parents, friends, corporations, and foundations to make charitable gifts to the College. Dining Services Provides meals for students, faculty and staff during the fall and spring sessions. Dining Services also does catering. Cost for staff and faculty meals: Breakfast $3.00 Lunch $4.00 Dinner $5.00

  13. Overview of Departments Ethyl Center in Martin Science Building Provides students with a place to both study and relax. The study area has reference material for math and sciences as well as a computer lab. Financial Planning and Assistance Office Administers all student financial aid programs including scholarships, grants, student and parent loans, and a work study program.

  14. Overview of Departments • Health Center • Is open during the academic year and provides health services to residential students. Periodically, the center sponsors events such as flu shots and health & wellness screenings to staff and faculty. • Information Technology • Is responsible for managing the use of computer information, phone and voice messaging resources across the entire campus for student, faculty and staff users. I.T. offers a Help Desk to students, faculty and staff at ext. 4005.

  15. Overview of Departments Human Resources Is responsible for staff and faculty benefits enrollment and administration, staff employment and compensation, workers compensation, and ensuring that the College is in compliance with Federal and State guidelines involving personnel policy.

  16. Overview of Departments International Programs, Office of (OIP) The OIP assists current students interested in study abroad with the application and financial aid process. Students may apply to attend semester or academic-year programs in the junior year or choose to study abroad during the summer, either with R-MWC faculty on summer study seminars or with a program sponsored by another institution. In addition, the OIP works directly with all visiting international faculty to handle travel, housing, office space, and other logistics as necessary.   17. Overview of Departments Lipscomb Library Houses approximately 170,000 volumes, in addition to providing over 600 current magazines and journal titles with backfiles on microfilm and paper. There is an extensive holding in audiovisual, and domestic and foreign newspapers. Also available is an on-line catalog.

  18. Overview of Departments Macon Bookshop Moved in the spring of 2002 to its current location on Rivermont Avenue. The store is managed by Barnes & Noble College Booksellers. It offers a wide variety of items beyond the normal textbooks. They have items for sale ranging from trade books on the best sellers list to clothing and office supplies. Staff and faculty receive a 10% discount. The bookstore is open to the public 7 days a week. While you are shopping enjoy a steaming hot cup of coffee or your favorite cappuccino at the Macon Coffee Shop located inside the Bookshop. See R-MWC portal for bookstore hours.

  19. Overview of Departments Maier Museum of Art Houses the College’s distinguished 19th & 20th century collection of American art. The museum serves both the academic community and the general public free of charge. Open Tue-Sun from 1 to 5 p.m.

Overview of Departments Nursery School Located in the lower level of the Health Center offers a relaxed, but structured, learning environment for children who have reached their 3rd or 4th birthday on or before September 30 of the current year. Open September through the the first week of June, 5 days a week, offering part and full day sessions. Contact the Director of the Nursery School for more information at ext. 8787.

  21. Overview of Departments Physical Education / Recreation (PER) Houses the following equipment /resources: billiard and ping-pong tables, swimming pool with specified swim hours; aerobics room with classes available; dance studio; weight and fitness room; and 8 tennis courts adjacent to the PER building. A listing of open facility times and class schedules may be obtained by contacting the PER staff. As a new staff or faculty member you should have also received a certificate for a free consultation from Human Resources.

  22. Overview of Departments Mail Room/Copy Center A full service post office operated by the College. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is a bulk copier available for use, charging back expenses to the appropriate departments. In addition, the Copy Center has negotiated discount rates with an outside vendor for copying/printing (letterhead, business cards, forms, etc.). President’s Office Is the chief executive office on campus wherein campus policies, programs, and activities are authorized. Current Interim President of the College is Ginger Worden.

  23. Overview of Departments Prime Time Office Plans, develops, and implements marketing and recruitment strategies for prospective students to the adult degree program. Processes applicants for admission to the Prime Time Program. Registrar’s Office The Registrar’s Office registers students in academic programs and maintains student biographical and academic records.

  24. Overview of Departments Riding Center The Riding Center is a 100-acre tract located about 10 minutes from the main campus. The center has an indoor arena, 40 stall barn, two teaching rings, an amphitheatre show ring, turnout paddocks for privately owned horses, and a student lounge and dressing room. Riders have access to adjoining land for cross country and trail riding.

  25. Overview of Departments Safety & Security Department Campus security is responsible for the safety of all students, faculty, staff and visitors to the college community. The department was outsourced in fall of 2005 to Securitas. The Security Department is responsible for enforcing driving and parking regulations. Any person wishing to park on campus, must register their vehicle(s) and display a parking decal in the lower right hand corner of the rear window.   27. How to file an Expense Statement For expenses over $50.00 • Pick up an expense statement envelope in the business office. 2. Complete all necessary information, enter your expenses on the appropriate line. (ex. airfare, meals, etc.) Place receipts in the envelope. 3. Enter the budget code for the expenses to be charged to and have Departmental Approval before returning envelope back to the Business Office Attention: Accounts Payable 4. If expense envelop is in Business Office by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, you will receive a check back on the same week on Friday. If not it will be the following Friday.

  28. Request for Reimbursement Under $50 • Take receipt to Business Office Cashier. Reimbursement must be approved by department head. 2. Have with you the appropriate expense account to be charged. 3. Cashier Hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday

  29. Need To Get An Invoice Paid • Pick up a Request for Payment form in the business office. • Complete form and get necessary approval. • Attach invoice to back of request. 4. Checks are printed weekly on Friday. Requests received after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday will be processed the following week.

  30. How To Report An Accident/Incident On Campus • Notify your Supervisor immediately. • Get needed medial attention using approved Panel of Physicians or if its an emergency call rescue squad. • Complete Accident/Incident report within 24 hours of occurrence. • Security is certified in First Aid, CPR & Bloodborne Pathogen, along with training on the electronic defibrillator

  31. How To Submit An Insurance Claim • Present your CIGNA insurance card at the doctor’s office. • If the doctor’s office does not file with CIGNA, you can pick up a Group Medical Direct ClaimForm in the Business Office. • Attach bill to the claim form. • Mail to the address on the claim form.

  32. Special Functions • The many social events and learning opportunities foster the efforts of the College to maintain the sense of community between faculty, staff and students. • Symposiums • Book signings at the Macon bookshop • College Club events • Therapeutic Thursdays in the summer • Sports Events, etc.
